Freedom Festival 2009
14 December 2009
Students from Wyke College volunteered to help out at the Freedom Festival and Clipper events that took place in Hull over the summer.
The weekend was a massive success for the city of Hull and the volunteers played a key role in directing visitors around the city, helping out the stewards (during a very busy point when people were cramming in to Queens Gardens to see JLS!), looking after stiltwalkers (during a very windy period on the marina in the run up to the Clipper race!) and all kinds of other things. Prior to the event, the students attended a training day at the Guildhall which included information about the Council's Events Team, VHEY (Visit Hull and East Yorkshire), a site visit of the event area and Counter Terrorism training by Humberside Police.
Sarah Harrison, part of the VHEY/Hull City Council Events Team said ‘Your volunteers were all of an excellent standard; they worked with huge amounts of enthusiasm and were more than willing to help out with any task thrown their way.’
