Miami Grace
16 December 2011
Grace Shoebridge, a second year Wyke Sixth Form College student, has gained a place to study PR and Advertising at the University of Miami, Florida, USA. Grace, who attended Hull Collegiate school for her GCSEs, is currently studying Media, Psychology and Business Studies at A level at Wyke, and is predicted to achieve an A grade in each of them. After her GCSEs she began a programme of A level study at Hymers College, but having changed direction with her choice of subjects, she decided to study at Wyke.
Grace lives on the other side of the Humber Bridge and has travelled to Hull for her studies since she was three years old! She says ‘Travelling to school or college has been a way of life for me and it has been worth it to get the education that I have received.’ Grace has always wanted to study at university in America and chose Miami as it was ‘amazing!’ The application process included writing essays for evaluation with the other part dependent on her academic scores. Grace concludes ‘If I hadn’t come to Wyke I don’t think I would have got so far, it’s all thanks to my teachers. Everything at Wyke is student-focused; the college bases everything on the students’ best interests. The excellent relationships you have with your teachers help you succeed, as you can ask them anything without feeling silly, the help and support is always there.’
