It has been an exciting time at Wyke, with application numbers soaring this year following success once again in the League Tables, as well as the building work on the £20 million re-development of the college coming to an end. Students moved into the state of the art new Oak building to start studying after the Easter break and are now taking advantage of the fantastic new facilities. The building includes an enormous Learning Resource Centre, a great theatre and dance space, the new sports facilities and music and media areas as well as a new refectory for students. Students who enrol in September will be the first to be able to experience an entirely new college.

Wyke once again topped the League Tables earlier this year, with a points per student score of 832.5. This is a 5.5 point increase on our results from last year and an incredible 111.4 points better than the national average. It also confirms with this score that Wyke students achieve the best of any state-funded school or college in Hull and the travel-to-learn area of the East Riding villages and the towns to the west and north of the city. Dr Richard Smith, Principal at Wyke, congratulated students, commenting: “These figures reflect the hard work and dedication at Wyke. The average points score per student shows the full package of achievement of every leaver: their ‘equipment for the future’. It is testament to the skill and expertise of the staff here and to the effectiveness of the sixth form college approach to post 16 education.”

On April 22nd, between 4.30-6pm there will be an Open Event for everyone to get a chance to explore the new building. The College will be open to current students and their families, as well as students planning to join the College in September. This event will take place alongside a Careers Convention that has been organised for students at Wyke. The Careers Convention will run from 2.30pm-5.30pm and will give students a chance to talk to numerous universities and apprenticeship providers about future opportunities. This looks set to be an exciting opportunity for everyone to find out for themselves why Wyke is so successful!
