  1. "Star Search" Discovers Jay

    27 April 2012

    Jay O'Connell

Wyke student Jay O’Connell has won the first heat of The Hull Daily Mail ‘Star Search’ and is through to the semi-finals of the singing competition. Jay, a former Trinity House pupil, is studying Graphics, Physics and Applied Science A levels at Wyke. He is self-taught and has only been playing the guitar for a year and a half but he wowed the judges with his versions of ‘Paradise’ by Coldplay and ‘Sigh no more’ by Mumford and Sons.

‘Star Search’ is the first competition he has ever entered. When his name wasn’t called out for either the ’Wild Card’ or second place he thought that was it and couldn’t believe it when he won!

See Jay perform one of his winning songs, “Sigh No More”, on the Wyke Sixth Form College YouTube channel.
