Sport at Wyke - Spring 2010

It has been another busy season at Wyke, with success in lots of areas, most noticeable of all in netball with Wyke winning consistently both regionally and nationally. Danni Brettell, a second year Wyke student who is currently studying P.E., Media and Psychology A levels, has been selected for the British Colleges Netball Squad.

A lucky group of Media and Film students have just returned from an action packed trip to New York. John Hamlin, Media Teacher and Liaison Manager at Wyke, organised five days of non-stop sight-seeing, ensuring an extremely full itinerary.

BTEC IT Students Gain University Offers

Among them, Andrew Hunt has received an offer from Durham University and Emma Challis has been offered a scholarship from Hull University. With several weeks still remaining on the course Emma and fellow student Brian Peach, have already achieved an overall grade DDD (equivalent to 3x A-grade A-Levels). A fantastic achievement.

Progress at Wyke

It has been an exciting time at Wyke, with application numbers soaring this year following success once again in the League Tables, as well as the building work on the £20 million re-development of the college coming to an end.
Students moved into the state of the art new Oak building to start studying after the Easter break and are now taking advantage of the fantastic new facilities. The building includes an enormous library, a great theatre and dance space, the new sports facilities, music and media areas as well as a new refectory for students. Students who enrol in September will be the first to be able to experience an entirely new college.

Earlier this year, AS and A level students of German received their new hoodies in the colours of the German flag, schwarz, rot und gold. The slogan on the back of the hoodies, Deutsch@Wyke, has now been linked to Wyke’s email system, so that interested new students, who see this address, can email straight through to the German Department.
