Sam gets England Call-Up

Sam Baker, who is currently studying P.E., ICT and Psychology A levels, has achieved great success in rugby league, gaining a place in the England Community Lions U18s team. Sam, who plays for West Hull, played in the recent international matches against Wales and Australia.

Wyke Students are Number One
18 November 2010
A team of four A level mathematics students from Wyke Sixth Form College have beaten off all-comers in the region in the UK Mathematics Competition. Competing on Friday at Newland School the team of AS students Jade Wilson and Joe Foxon and A2 students Robert Rouse and James Morton beat all-comers from colleges and school sixth forms throughout the region. Runners up were Selby College.

Emma Challis Scoops Big Award in House of Lords Ceremony

A former Wyke College Computing student has been presented with a highly sought after Helena Kennedy Foundation award in a ceremony at the House of Lords. Emma Challis received her award from human rights lawyer and peer Baroness Helena Kennedy QC in recognition of her achievements in reaching higher education.

Is this as high as it can get?

In 2009, 99% of students taking A levels at Wyke passed. Surely that would never be equalled?
2010 students have risen to the challenge! 967 examinations taken, 964 passes. That's a 99.7% pass rate - an astonishing achievement. In 32 A level subjects and in the ICT National Diploma course we achieved a 100% pass.

Countdown to Languages

The Wyke English Department proudly presented Susie Dent, from Channel 4’s Countdown Dictionary Corner, who talked to AS and A2 English Language students at the University of Hull’s Middleton Hall. Susie has also published a yearly Language Report, which charts effectively new vocabulary being used by everyday people, based upon her own research and that carried out by the Oxford English Dictionary.
