Sport at Wyke - Spring 2010
17 March 2010
It has been another busy season at Wyke, with success in lots of areas, most noticeable of all in netball with Wyke winning consistently both regionally and nationally. Danni Brettell, a second year Wyke student who is currently studying P.E., Media and Psychology A levels, has been selected for the British Colleges Netball Squad.
This is a huge achievement for Danni and it is the first time Wyke has had a student competing in netball at national level. Danni has a full time place in the squad and has just returned from a match in Scotland. The British Colleges Netball Squad will be going on tour in April 2010.
In other sporting news the four football teams have all done well this year and the cricket season is once more upon us. The Sports Department have continued their fundraising for MacMillan Cancer with a slave auction organised by the Rugby team. Inter-tutor tournaments have continued with darts and table tennis and will now include a Wii Fit Mario Kart championship!
The HotShots Basketball players have all now completed their Level 1 coaching award. The Leadership Academy is going from strength to strength and second year students will be running tournaments for pupils at local partner schools after the Easter break.
All in all it has been a busy time for all of our sports teams and everyone is really looking forward to continued success in the new and improved facilities of the Oak building.
