Wyke hosted a Learning Day on Friday, 18th February for the most academically gifted students in the Humber region. Academics and students from the universities of Oxford and Cambridge gave lectures and ran workshops on topics in the Arts, Sciences and Mathematics that were designed to extend and stimulate students' intellectual experience. Students from eight schools and colleges in the area accepted our invitation to participate with Wyke students in this unique event which it was hoped will encourage them to apply to the most competitive universities.

The event included advice on how to go about applying to top universities and academic sessions in topics ranging from Medieval History to exploring the atom.

Alexandra Bankoff, organiser of the event, and guide to Oxbridge applicants at Wyke, said “Student feedback was extremely positive from all students, a great deal of it positively glowing.

Principal at Wyke Sixth Form College, Dr Richard Smith, said, “I am really pleased that we have been able to bring students from around the area to this event. Admissions tutors for the most competitive Higher Education courses in the country are always looking to extend access for young people in places like Hull and the East Riding but they too often find it difficult to meet them and get the key messages across. At this event they met many talented students and they were able to give them a taste of what learning is like in a top university.”
