Wyke Students Top the Table Again
13 January 2011
Students at Wyke Sixth Form College maintained their position at the top of the Department for Education’s post-16 Attainment Tables for all of Hull and East Yorkshire.
Students left Wyke Sixth Form College with average scores 116 points above the England average. It is also 54 points better than any other state-funded school or college in the city and again 80 points above the Beverley joint sixth form.
This score represents the full achievement of students learning at Level 3 (A level and equivalent qualifications). It means that Wyke students go on to university and employment with bags full of success, greater than the average regionally and nationally.
Principal, Dr Richard Smith, is delighted with the outcomes for students that these numbers represent. He congratulated the students and staff on yet another best year of achievement ever.
“This average points score represents something genuinely significant about the achievements students are taking away with them when they leave Wyke. Using them, you can compare the full breadth and depth of their achievement, by institution.
This can be important because what students are getting out of their education is not everywhere what it said on the tin when they enrolled. Nor is it always the same as people assume when they look at the options in their area. For instance, these figures show again how much better students do at a sixth form college in Hull than in any sixth form of schools in the region. They also show the greater breadth of their achievement compared to general further education and specialist colleges where many students in this age group are less fully occupied as full-time students.”
