Wyke Trophy for Barntrup, Germany
22 June 2012
The language and cultural exchange between Wyke Sixth Form College and Stadtisches Gymnasium, a college in Barntrup, Germany has been running for 23 years. In 2009, to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the exchange, the staff in Germany brought over a trophy to be presented annually at Wyke’s Awards Evening. They also send a book (generally a German grammar book or a dictionary) and a certificate each year for individual students.
Wyke has reciprocated by sending them a trophy to be awarded in Germany to exceptional English Language students. This has been presented for the first time to Alina Redeker in light of her achievements with the English Language. Janet Wynn, Head of Modern Foreign Languages at Wyke, said, ‘This is a wonderful way to celebrate success in language learning in both countries.’ German Exchange Co-ordinator Herr Meyer said ‘It was an honour to present the English prize to Alina, who looks forward to the next exchange with Wyke.’
