Young Engineer to represent Britain
09 September 2009
Philippa Clark from Wyke College, will set off for the USA to represent her country at the Intel-sponsored International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Reno, Nevada from 9th - 15th May.
She has earned the opportunity following her success at The Big Bang Fair, the first UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair, when she won the title Young Engineer for Britain.
Pip is currently studying Physics, Chemistry, Music Technology, Maths and Further Maths at Wyke and was also part of the winning RSC Young Analysts Competition. She will face tough competition from over 1500 students representing 50 countries from all over the world. Her invention is a novel way for trumpet players to learn to play scales.
She explained, You can practice finger patterns and it plays the note back to you, if its correct you see a green LED, with a red one showing if its wrong. The great thing is that you can use headphones, so you can practice wherever you want, without annoying anyone, even on a bus.
Pip said trumpet players need to know over 200 scales, so it really helps and she doesn t know of anything like it on the market. A daily diary will be posted via the Young Engineers website so check out, www.youngeng.org
