Level 2
Whatever you want to do, remember you can do all sorts of Level 2 courses at Wyke!
Some students need to spend another year studying at Level 2 in order to achieve the five GCSE grade Cs, or equivalent, to study A-Level or Level 3 vocational courses at Wyke.
If this applies to you, DON’T PANIC! You can enrol for a level 2 course. If you do well you will then be able to progress to a level 3 course the following year.
To start a level 2 course at Wyke you will need to have at least 4 grade D GCSEs including GCSE English Language to start a Level 2 course at Wyke. In addition to GCSEs, other Level 2 qualifications are valued when considering your application to individual courses. Distinction and merit grades are treated as an indication of good Level 2 achievement.
We have two types of level 2 course at Wyke.
The GCSE programme
You will be able to do five GCSE courses, in one year. This will include English and Mathematics (if you don’t have a grade C or better already), it will include a Science subject if you want it, and you will be able to choose the other subjects from a programme that will probably include some new subjects, like Sociology or Child Development.
The GCSE re-sit programme is quite hard and to do five subjects in a year is a demanding undertaking. To start this programme you will most likely already have three or four grade C GCSEs. An alternative is to follow the BTEC Level 2 programme.
- Child Development (AQA)
- English Language (WJEC)
- English Literature (WJEC)
- Mathematics (AQA)
- Science (AQA)
- Sociology (AQA)
BTEC Level 2 Diploma
Here, you will choose one main subject that you are interested in. It will be closely related to the sort of job you would like to get when you leave full time education.
You can chose one of the following:
- Health and Social Care
- Information and Communication Technology
- Business
- Sport
The main subject will take up most of your study time, although it will still be possible to do one or two GCSE subjects as well, alongside your BTEC.
