Level 3
Level 3 is advanced level and covers A level and BTEC level 3 courses. In order to study level 3 at Wyke you need to achieve a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C including at least a grade C in English.
In addition many specific A levels have additional subject based requirements (e.g. for A level French you must have at least a grade B in GCSE French) – the details of these requirements are found in course information leaflets and on our website listings.
The reason Wyke requires success in GCSE courses is that these courses are assessed partly by examination and therefore they are the best indicator of preparedness to study A levels. We do value equivalent level 2 qualifications and high grades (Merit and Distinction) are taken into account when applying to progress with that vocational area.
To have a full choice of Advanced level courses you will need to achieve a number of grade Bs in your GCSE subjects. Further specific course requirements are detailed on this attached pdf document.
At Wyke College we offer more than 40 different level three courses, allowing you to put together a programme of study that exactly matches your interests, strengths and future aspirations. As a sixth form college we have the breadth and depth to deliver your course choices without clashes.
Most of our level three students choose four AS level courses or equivalent. Others will select a BTEC Level 3 course together with other AS subjects that complements their study.
