Level 3 : AS/A Level Media Studies (OCR)
Who is the course for?
Any student with an interest in the Media and/or thoughts of following a Higher Education course in Media / Film / Communications / Journalism / Cultural Studies. The course works well with many subjects but especially English Language, English Literature, Graphics, ICT, Photography, Film Studies and Sociology.
Content outline
Both AS and A2 Media Studies offer a combination of practical and theoretical units.
AS has a Key Media Concepts exam featuring Textual Analysis (TV, Drama) and an Audiences and Institutions (Music Industry) case study. The Foundation Practical Portfolio deals with producing an original music magazine.
A2 has a Critical Perspectives exam, dealing with productions skill development and contemporary media issues, such as contemporary media regulation and post-modern media. The Advanced Practical Portfolio offers a variety of briefs that encompass video, print and e-media production.

AS Foundation Portfolio - Music Magazine Brief
This blog was produced by Louis Cochran, an AS Media Studies student at Wyke College, for his Foundation Portfolio production unit. The brief required Louis to produce an original music magazine with example front cover, contents and double page spread pages.
A2 Advanced Portfolio - Music Video Brief
This video is produced and directed by Sarah McKinley as part of her A2 Advanced Portfolio in Media Studies. The original track is by Kesha, "Kiss n Tell" from the album "Animal". The video was shot on HD video and edited using Adobe Premiere Pro.
