The EFL department at Wyke College is housed in our new ‘state of the art’ Ash building, a product of the college’s multi-million pound re-build programme. Students profit from a range of multi-media facilities which offer a new and exciting concept to language learning.

Wyke college is an approved education provider and is listed in the tier 4 register of sponsors. The college holds Highly Trusted Sponsor status.

Who are our courses designed for?

Anyone who would like to learn English or improve their existing skills in a helpful and friendly atmosphere. This may be on a full-time or part-time basis. All courses lead to certification and the opportunity for further study.

What qualifications do I need for this course?

These courses are offered at a range of levels so no formal qualifications are required. Students are placed at a level with which they are comfortable and one which suits their individual needs.

What will I study?

Each level of the course is aimed at improving communication in English in the four skill areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Teachers encourage students to develop their awareness of British culture, and to improve their range of grammar by using a wide variety of resources and technology, together with up-to-date teaching methods. At the higher level students have the opportunity to study English for Academic Purposes.

Course details

Courses will take place from mid-September until June of the following year with a second intake of students in January. English language classes are small and informal. They are taught at levels ranging from Elementary to Advanced.

    • Elementary level (Access) - A2 of the Common European Framework
    • Pre-intermediate (Achiever) – B1
    • Intermediate (Communicator) – B2
    • Higher Intermediate (Expert) - C1

  • Cambridge IELTS
  • Computer qualifications include 'New CLAIT'

Wyke College is an associate college of the University of Hull and several students each year progress on to higher education.

What can I do afterwards?

Whatever your reasons for study there is no doubt that English plays a key role in an expanding international market. On completion of your course here at Wyke college you may decide to use your new or improved skills within the employment market or to aid you with further higher academic study.
