Student Profiles

The reputation of Wyke is built upon the excellent facilities and broad course choice but most of all it’s based upon the success and happiness of our students. Below is just a small sample of student profiles, from a range of subjects and levels.

    1. Waleed Zulfiqar

      Waleed Zulfiqar

      Waleed is a former Endeavour High School pupil, currently studying Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Business Studies at Wyke.

      As part of his Biology course, Waleed recently went on a field trip to Barcelona where the group studied biodiversity and human interaction with the environment.

      He said ‘We had a great time in Barcelona and it brought to life the subject that we are studying, making concepts much easier to understand.

      Waleed chose Wyke because of its great academic reputation and he says it has a very friendly atmosphere. He plans to go on to study Bio Science at university.

    2. Lucy Whittaker

      Lucy Whittaker

      Lucy, a former pupil of Hull Collegiate, studied Textiles, Photography, History and English Literature A levels at Wyke.

      In the highly competitive world of fashion, Lucy has already achieved great success. Based on her portfolio work alone, she was offered a place at the prestigious London College of Fashion and she will start there this September .

      What has she valued most during her time at Wyke? ‘Both the resources available, and the help from the teachers and technicians have been fantastic. I would recommend Wyke to everyone.

      After college, Lucy aims to work in fashion, specifically costume design, and has a glittering career ahead of her.

    3. Sam Daysley

      Sam Daysley

      Sam joined Wyke from Endeavour School and chose to come to Wyke as it had a great reputation for A levels. He is currently studying Maths, Physics and PE at A level and has studied IT at AS level.

      He aims to go to university to study Physics. Before joining Wyke Sam played Rugby League, but has switched to Rugby Union and is our College Captain. The team have played very well this year, winning the British Colleges North East League and just missing out on the British Colleges Cup.

      Sam says ‘There is a great atmosphere within the rugby team and the coaches are always there to help you out. The training is brilliant and there are plenty of fixtures. I’ve made lots of new friends since joining Wyke and I’m glad I chose to come here.

    4. Bethany Horncastle

      Bethany Horncastle

      Bethany comes from Market Weighton and she chose Wyke as there is no local sixth form provider who can offer the choice of courses she wants. She is studying BTEC Performing Arts and A level Photography and feels the teachers at Wyke are very supportive and offer a wide range of skills.

      As part of an exchange trip, she recently toured with the college in Germany, where she performed in ‘Back to School’ based on Grease 2.

      She said ‘The trip was great as we met lots of people, got to use different stage spaces and develop our dance skills. It was fun travelling to another country to perform.

      After Wyke, Beth plans to continue her studies at drama school.

    5. Abbie Baker

      Abbie Baker

      Abbie joined Wyke from Pickering High School and she is currently studying Psychology, Maths, English and Spanish at A level, having completed Photography at AS level.

      She chose Wyke because of its great academic reputation and its fantastic choice of courses. She says ‘The facilities at Wyke are excellent, there’s always somewhere you can go to study, whether its on a computer, in the library or in a quiet space. The teachers are very helpful and it’s been a great opportunity to meet new people and make friends.

      And what about the future? Abbie is looking at studying Combined Honours in Social Science at Durham University.

    6. Levi Willis

      Levi Willis

      Levi joined Wyke from Sydney Smith school and is studying Geography, History and Psychology at A level, having previously studied AS Sociology. Her aim is to go to university to study Geography as she has thoroughly enjoyed the subject at Wyke.

      Her field trip to the Yorkshire Moors inspired her as it allowed her make her own discoveries. She says, ‘Having been on the field trip really helped me with my exam preparation as it made it all real for me’.

      Levi has found Wyke to be a very friendly place where she has been able to meet lots of like-minded people. She has enjoyed it so much she has recommended it to everyone, including her younger brother!
