National Theatre Connections is a nation wide youth theatre festival for ages 13–19, offering groups the chance toperform brand‑new commissioned plays written specifically for young people.
We first perform an original play in Wyke Theatre in March, with a NT London director visiting to give feedback, before transferring to regional partner theatre York Theatre Royal. In summer, selected companies are invited to perform at the Connections Festival at the National Theatre.
The programme provides professional mentorship, develops performance and production skills, and connects young people with the wider theatre industry.
Previous productions at Wyke include 'The Sad Club' (a musical about anxiety and depression),'Ravers' (a play about a group of nerds and geeks who host their own rave), and The Animals (A play about the reality of Youth Custody centres in the UK). (Ledby CFN, Friday lunchtimes in the theatre)
