From record-breaking academic results to national competition success, international travel opportunities and outstanding sporting achievements, 2026 has been another remarkable year at Wyke Sixth Form College.
Recognised as one of the country's leading sixth form colleges, Wyke continues to provide students with exceptional opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.
The year saw students take centre stage in the college's hugely successful cross-college production of High School Musical. Performed at Middleton Hall, the production captivated audiences across three sell-out performances.
The experience showcased the creativity, commitment and talent that thrives throughout Wyke's vibrant performing arts community.
Adding further inspiration to the year, double BAFTA-winning former student Robert Aramayo returned to college to share insights from his successful career in film and television with current Performing Arts students.
Learning extended far beyond the classroom through an extensive programme of educational visits and enrichment experiences.
With more than 200 trips and visits taking place throughout the year, students travelled to destinations including Los Angeles, St Lucia, Amsterdam, Las Vegas, South Africa, Washington DC and Thailand.
The programme continues to expand, with exciting new visits to San Francisco and Japan planned for the coming academic year.
Students across the college achieved success in a wide range of disciplines.
Wyke's Law students were crowned Champions of Yorkshire before progressing to the national final of the Bar Mock Trial Competition, placing them amongst the country's leading teams.
Former Newland School for Girls student Tazmin Farr once again performed at Shakespeare's Globe as part of the prestigious Poetry By Heart competition, marking a second consecutive appearance at the national event.
Creativity flourished through the Foundation Art and Design end-of-year exhibition, where students showcased an impressive range of artistic work.
Elsewhere, Pre-Medical students enhanced their practical knowledge through a specialist surgical workshop, while Culture Day returned bigger and louder than ever, celebrating the diversity and inclusivity of the Wyke community.
The college also celebrated staff success as Holly Jackson received the Helen Kitching Psychology Teacher of the Year Award in recognition of her innovative teaching, exceptional student support and contribution to education.
Sport continued to be a major success story at Wyke.
The Association of Colleges league tables confirmed Wyke as the highest-performing college in the Humber region for overall team performance, reflecting the hard work and dedication shown by students and staff throughout the year.
Several student athletes secured prestigious football scholarships to universities in the United States, while others represented England Colleges on the international stage.
The year concluded with a memorable Sports Presentation Evening, celebrating the many achievements of Wyke's talented athletes.
The academic year finished with Wyke's strongest results on record.
An impressive 86% of A Level students achieved A* to C grades, while 85% of vocational students were awarded Distinction* or Distinction grades.
These outstanding outcomes placed Wyke within the top 10% nationally for academic progress, reinforcing the college's reputation for academic excellence and student success.
In 2026-27, Wyke will continue to deliver the opportunities, experiences and support that help students achieve their ambitions and realise their potential.
