Elijah Begins Oxford Journey

<< Back to all news

On results day, former Kelvin Hall student Elijah Baxter-Emmerson secured a place at the University of Oxford to study History. Now stepping into the world of academia at one of the most prestigious institutions in the world, Elijah has begun to experience the rich traditions and heritage associated with Oxford.

Unlike the modern enrolment process most university students undergo, Elijah was formally matriculated in October, officially becoming a student of the University of Oxford. Matriculation at Oxford dates back to 1420, with a statute introduced in 1565 making it mandatory for all scholars to be registered with the University. Interestingly, Christ Church—Elijah’s college—did not appear in university records until around 1572.

Reflecting on his achievement, Elijah shared on LinkedIn:

“As a Yorkshire-born, state-educated, working-class kid, I never dreamt it to be possible to study at the #1 university in the world. Now that I am here, I recognise the importance of not only studying hard but also taking advantage of every opportunity offered to me and chasing those within an arm’s reach. Onwards, I look forward to my journey ahead and the many opportunities that will come with it.”
