PRESTIGIOUS SHAKESPEARE PRIZE

<< Back to all news

Wyke is celebrating an incredible achievement by one of its A level English Literature students, Tazmin Farr, who has been awarded the Betty Haigh Shakespeare Prize, a national competition run by the English Association.

The prize invites students aged 11–19 to submit an imaginative and critically engaged response to one of Shakespeare’s texts. Tazmin’s winning entry impressed the judges with its creativity, depth of analysis, and persuasive style. As part of her award, Tazmin receives a cash prize and a place at next year’s English Association conference.

Jenny West, Head of English at Wyke Sixth Form College, shared her delight:

“Wonderful news for the English Department – the brilliant former Newland School for Girls student Tazmin Farr has won the prestigious Betty Haigh Shakespeare Prize. Those of you who know Taz will know that she deserves every accolade, so please congratulate her!”

This is not Tazmin’s first literary success. Earlier this year, she was a finalist in the Poetry by Heart competition, performing at the iconic Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London during the summer of 2025.

Congratulations Tazmin.
