The Wyke English, Media, Modern Foreign Languages and Arts (EMMA) faculty is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable teacher to teach A-Level French and for the right candidate lead our Modern Foreign Languages provision and ensure the highest quality education for our students.
As a Teacher of French, you will inspire students through engaging, well-structured lessons and foster a strong development of linguistic competence alongside a deep understanding of French-speaking cultures and societies. You will plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons, motivating and challenging students while carefully tracking and supporting their progress. You will contribute to curriculum development and the creation of high-quality departmental resources, as well as participating in wider College activities and enrichment in line with your skills and interests.
Applicants appointed to the Head of Modern Foreign Languages role will play a pivotal role in shaping an ambitious, well-sequenced curriculum and fostering a culture of high expectations, intellectual curiosity, and academic excellence. As Head of MFL, you will line manage a small, dedicated team of teachers and language assistants, ensuring consistency, high standards, and strong outcomes across A Level provision. You will also oversee the development of cultural and academic enrichment within the curriculum, including speaking provision, the Individual Research Project, and opportunities that promote real-world engagement with the French language and its global context.
You will model exemplary classroom practice, lead on quality assurance within the department, and support the continued development of teaching, learning, and assessment strategies. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the EMMA Faculty, you will contribute to wider strategic priorities while promoting the value of language learning and its importance in students’ academic and personal progression.
The successful candidate will:

• have a degree in French or a closely related discipline and a teaching qualification (or be working towards it). We would also consider native speaker status.
• be fluent in written and spoken English.
• be skilled in delivering engaging lessons that draw the best performance from students and create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

• have excellent communication, organisational, and teamwork skills.
The Head of Modern Foreign Languages will:
• have experience in supporting teacher development through learning walks and observations to ensure consistent high-quality teaching across the department.
• have the ability to build great relationships, with those you lead and wider teams that contribute to student success.
• lead in the development, implementation and quality assurance of strategies for assessment, feedback and intervention.
• be confident in analysing data and use of tracking reports to monitor student progress.
• liaise with academic enrichment leads to promote aspirational next steps and personal skills development of students.
