The Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, dedicated, and aspirational teacher to join our outstanding, welcoming, and supportive teaching team.
The right candidate will have the highest expectations for students and be able to cultivate a vibrant, engaging learning environment for all students to thrive. Both History and Politics are currently taught using the Edexcel specification and are supported with a range of extracurricular opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom.
We are a large and growing department with over 300 students enrolled to study History, and over 150 students on our increasingly popular Politics course. Many of our student's study both subjects as part of their academic programme at Wyke and go onto achieve exceptional academic success transitioning into highly Universities and Degree Apprenticeships.
As a Teacher of History, you will inspire students through engaging, well-structured lessons that encourage critical thinking and evaluative assessment. You will plan, deliver and assess high-quality learning that motivates and challenges students, whilst tracking and supporting their progress. You will contribute to curriculum development, departmental resources and enrichment opportunities in line with your skills and interests. The teaching team you will be joining consists of three other experienced teachers with a culture of collaboration and professional engagement.
Your key responsibilities will include:
• Teaching A-level History with potential opportunities to teach A-Level Politics
• Planning and delivering high-quality lessons that support progression and achievement
• Creating a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students are supported to succeed
• Monitoring student progress and using data to inform teaching and intervention strategies
• Contributing to departmental planning, assessment and curriculum development
• Supporting enrichment activities, including exhibitions and wider creative opportunities
• Maintaining a safe, engaging and stimulating studio environment
The successful candidate will:
• Be keen to embrace our culture of high standards and commitment to development
• Hold a degree in History or a closely related discipline and a teaching qualification (or be working towards it)
• Be skilled in delivering engaging lessons that inspire creativity and independence
• Have excellent subject knowledge, particularly in modern history.
• Have strong communication, organisational and teamwork skills
• Have a passion for history, politics and the wider humanities.
