DOUBLE BAFTA NOMINATION

Former Wyke Performing Arts student Robert Aramayo is celebrating not one, but two prestigious BAFTA nominations. Earlier this year, Robert learned he had been shortlisted in the Rising Star category, an award decided by public vote, for his leading role in the British independent film I Swear. This exciting news was soon followed by a second nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role, a category in which he appears alongside industry heavyweights Leonardo DiCaprio and Timothée Chalamet.

Robert’s former teachers at Wyke say his success comes as no surprise. After leaving college, he secured a place at the world renowned Juilliard School in New York, the prestigious drama conservatory that inspired the hit film and television series Fame.

Speaking in a recent broadcast interview, Robert reflected on the honour of being recognised by BAFTA, “I mean, honestly, I just can’t believe it, just to be acknowledged by BAFTA in any way. It is unbelievable. I am really humbled by it. I honestly just always feel so lucky to do the job. It is very hard to get a job and audition as an actor, so just being able to keep doing it is amazing.”

Robert’s achievements are far from overnight success. Since graduating from Juilliard, he has built an impressive career across film and television. He is widely known for playing Elrond in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022 to present) and Young Ned Stark in Game of Thrones (2016 to 2017). His credits also include Behind Her Eyes (2021), Mindhunter (2019), and feature films such as The King’s Man (2021) and Nocturnal Animals (2016).

The BAFTA ceremony will take place at the Royal Albert Hall on 22 February and will be broadcast on BBC One.
